The children of 2nd Class had a very fun packed and eventful week before the mid term break. The children had great fun making Halloween themed characters in Art and dressing up for the witchety walk. The parents and children made huge efforts and the costumes were amazing. The parents association organised halloween activities for the children in the school hall after our walk. We were also lucky enough to be asked by the transition year students to attend a Halloween party in the Tearmann Community Garden. It was very well oragnised and the children had a spooktacular time!!
The Junior Infants were very lucky to recieve a visit from Garda Bernard recently. They learned all about the work of the Gardai and even got to go in the Garda car!
The 5th class children reached the summit of Keadeen today, with spectacular views and a great sense of humour all the way. More images and reflections to follow in the coming days. Our Trip Up Mt. Keadeen
It was 10:30am, the 11th of October 2016 and we were walking out of our school, Scoil Naomh and getting on a bus to hike up Keadeen Mountain. I was sitting beside Callum. We were going through Rathdangan. It was very quiet as most of the children were in school and the adults were in work. We arrived at the foot of Keadeen at 11:00. We started our walk after we met Ms. Murtagh, Mr. Hannafin, Pat and Ms. Casey’s dad, Michael Casey. As we climbed Michael told us about his breathtaking mountain climbs in the Alps and Kilimanjaro. On some he had dangerous experiences. Mr. Murphy was very excited as it was the first mountain he had climbed in Wicklow. As we progressed near the top we had to go through a squelshy, unpleasant, mucky bog. Lots of people got mucky and lost some shoes. Ms. Casey had to do a few search and rescues for shoes!!! As we progressed we finally got to the top. We put some stones on the cairn for good luck. We ate our lunch, took a few photos and made our way back down the mountain and we came to the bog again. I told Charli and Clare that I was going to take a ‘‘photo’’ and they walked backwatds into a pool of boggy water. When we came near the bus we had to pass through by bellowing fire and the smoke stank. We arrived at the bus and went home. Shout out to Ms. Casey for organising the day. The Mt. Keadeen Trip We went up Mt. Keadeen on Tuesday the 11th of October. We went up because our teachers wanted us to learn more about history and geography. Ms. Casey, Pat (our wonderful caretaker), Ms. Murtagh, Mr. Hannafin, Mr. Murphy, Dave (our savage bus driver) and Michael Casey (Ms. Casey’s dad) came with us. Ms. Casey organised it. My partner on the trip was Katie. It took us about 30 minutes to get there. We arrived there about 10:05am. We then started our climb. In the middle we stopped and found deer footprints. Then we all took a drink of water. It took us about two hours to get up. When we arrived at the top there was a pile of rocks on top of each other. Ms. Casey said to place a rock on the top for good luck. Then there was a load of pictures take. We then had some lunch. After that we started climbing down. There was a lot of bogs. Clare and I fell into them face first!! Then Clare and I were linking arms and Clare slipped into a muddy hole and she dragged me in too. We then went around a bunch of smoke. It smelled awful!!! We eventually arrived at the bus. My rating for the trip was 100 out of 100. Baltinglass Senior Football Team visited Scoil Naomh Iósaf on Monday morning following their tremendous win in the Wicklow Senior Football Championship against St. Pats on Sunday. There was great excitement in the P.E. hall as the children cheered and welcomed the team, many of whom are past pupils of Scoil Naomh Iósaf. We gave the team high fives and some children had a chance to hold the cup. The team also visited the Junior and Senior infant classrooms. We are proud of Mr. Walshe who is part of the management team that trained and mentored the team to make their dream a reality. The staff and pupils of Scoil Naomh Iósaf wish the team every success in the Leinster Championship on October 30th. Ár frása na seachtaine ná 'Tá bród an domhain orthu'. (Our Irish phrase of the week is 'They are very proud!') Well done to the team. On Tuesday 21st of June, 2nd Class were buzzing with excitement as we set off to Tayto Park. On arrival we split into our groups to take on different adventurous tasks. Some children had a very realistic view of Angry Birds in the 5d cinema, zip lined from great heights, attempted to scale the towering rock climbing wall, threaded across wires on the Sky Walk or screamed their heads off on the famous Cú Chulainn Rollercoaster. Once our adrenaline had calmed down we were ready to take a tour of the Tayto Factory and see how the famous tasty crisps are made. We couldn't believe some of the facts we learned about the classic crisp. Before heading home we had a tour around the zoo and witnessed some interesting and exotic animals Tayto Park had to offer. On Wednesday 22nd June, Jim Callery, Environmental Officer of Wicklow Co. Council raised our 3rd Green Flag for Water Conservation. The school band taught by Emer Casey provided the entertainment in our spacious hall. Martina, Clare and Colette led the school choir once again with an amazing repertoire of songs, finishing up with "Ireland's Call". Parents' representatives, Board of Management and the Green Committee gathered in the staff room for delicious treats to celebrate this momentous occasion. Thanks to all the super staff, parents and children.
The weather couldn’t dampen our spirits on Sports Day! We were all raring to go in our teams. Teams had to complete a series of races to see which teams would be victorious in the end. A fun and entertaining day was had by all and we already cannot wait for next year’s sports day! See if you can spot yourself or your friends in action during the races.
The Junior Infants school tour took place on Friday June 17th. Our first stop was Marlay Park, where we had lots of fun on the swings, slides and climbing frames. After a small snack at the playground it was time for us get back on the bus and go to Imaginosity. Everyone really enjoyed experiencing all the different play areas in Imaginosity and we all had a great time! Thank you to Ms. Doyle, Ms Nolan and Anne who accompanied the Junior Infants and their teachers on the tour. Senior Infants had a brilliant day at Kia Ora Farm. The weather held up and we had a great time petting and feeding alpacas, goats, deer, rabbits and many more common and unusual farm animals. We had a whirl around the farm on a fire engine. We were in our element driving tractors, manoeuvring diggers, racing go-karts and navigating our way through mazes. Our day was topped off with a tasty ice-cream. See if you can spot yourself in any of the pictures. We were all really excited on Monday, when we realised that our caterpillars had made their cocoons. They had been eating lots of food recently and had gotten very big! Then at the weekend they finally made their cocoons. We had to give the cocoons 2 days to harden before we could move them to the butterfly habitat and we had to be really careful with them. They are now in their new home and will soon become butterflies. Junior and Senior Infants have been learning about the church in Religion and this week they visited St. Joseph's Church in Baltinglass. Sr. Eileen told the children lots of things about the church. They saw the altar, statues of Mary and Jesus and some beautiful stained glass windows. Afterwards, they visited the Tearmann Community Garden and had a lovely picnic
Some of the Junior Infants have been writing their own stories at home. Look at their stories below! |
